2007-2008 Dyslexia Board
President's Corner by Betsy Bond
I am so honored to be serving as your President for the Board of the Christian County Association for Specific Perceptual Motor Disabilities, a.k.a. Dyslexia. I became aware of this organization in the Spring of 2005 at a Red Cross dinner. I was representing the Chamber of Commerce and was lucky enough to be standing in line with Betty Warner. She was wearing her Dyslexia name tag at the time-which she does so often. I told her I was interested in Dyslexia because it runs in my family. What I didn’t know was that they were actively in search of new board members for the next fiscal year. Well, one thing led to another and I became a board member in May of 2005.
The past two years have been very educational for me. The most amazing thing that I have learned is that if you have Dyslexia and you live in this area-you are a very lucky person. What we have here in Hopkinsville is second to none. It is actually one of the best, if not the best, educational programs in the country. I was under the assumption that these programs existed in most cities. I was wrong. The work that is being done through the screenings and tutorial programs is truly phenomenal. We have a terrific staff and wonderful volunteers who devote countless hours to make this Association a model for all others.
I am looking forward to serving you this year as President. There are already many exciting plans in the works for our 2007-2008 fiscal year.
